My Salvation Story

My earliest memory was when I was three. I thought to myself, “I do need Jesus. Jesus, please come into my heart. I love you. Amen.” I grew up going to a Christian school. And for years afterward, I would learn something and think to myself, “Can I really be saved if I didn’t know about this?” If there were a salvation invitation at church or school during chapel, I would always go and pray the same prayer. Fire insurance is what it's called. I did this at 6, 8, 10, and 12. I really wanted to be saved but wasn’t sure what that meant or if I knew enough to really be saved.

When I was 12, a pastor, who was also trying his best to teach me piano, explained that salvation is through faith in what Jesus had done on the cross, not on what I did or how much I knew. I had heard it before, but he listened to my questions and listened to my fears. He explained that nothing could undo my salvation once I placed my trust in Jesus, not even me. Jesus would never let go of my hand. I began reading the Bible as more than just fun stories, but about someone who did something for me personally and wrote me the book I had in my hand. I began memorizing scripture and praying on my own.

1 John 1: 9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hosea 6:6
For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Psalm 8: 3,4
When I look up at the heavens, which your fingers made, and see the moon and the stars, which you set in place, of what importance is the human race, that you should notice them? Of what importance is humanity that you should pay attention to them?.

John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

2 Timothy 2: 11-13
The saying is trustworthy, for:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
if we are faithless, he remains faithful—
for he cannot deny himself.
